Tiling

What is Tiling?

A tile is a manufactured piece of hard-wearing material such as ceramic, porcelain, stone, granite, metal, baked clay, or even glass, generally used for covering floors, walls, or tabletops. Tiles are often used to form wall and floor coverings, and can range from simple square tiles to complex or mosaics.

Why should I choose Tiles?

Tile are durable and maintenance is simple, it makes an excellent choice for your home. There are so many colors, styles, shapes, and finishes that customizing your tile flooring is easy and limitless.

Ceramic and stone tile flooring is durable and stands up to regular wear and tear without showing signs of aging. By comparison, carpet, laminate and even wood will show their age over time. That is not the case with tile. In the event a tile does break, that individual tile can be removed and replaced, making the entire floor look like new. When other types of flooring wear out, the entire surface needs to be replaced.

From porches to bathrooms, tile flooring works in any room. Tile is common in areas that are prone to messes – like entryways – where people may have wet or muddy shoes or kitchens where spills may occur. Tile flooring is often used in bathrooms because steam or water that sloshes over the edge of a tub will not damage it. Tile is used in these areas partly because it is durable, but also because it is easy to clean.

With so many styles and colors you are sure to find the perfect tile for your project. There are even tiles that look like very realistic wood. This is a great way to get the look of wood, but with the function and ease of maintenance that comes with tile. The tiles can be installed right up against one another with no grout lines, to mimic the look of real wood flooring.

A major perk of tile is that electric heating elements can be laid underneath the tile during the installation process, creating a heated floor. The tiles will radiate the heat evenly and retain the heat for a period of time after the element is turned off. Installing a heated floor adds to the expense of the project, but if you’re tired of cold floors, the benefits outweigh the cost.
